A work made of patterned side: silk, plain weave; hand painted. lined with silk, plain weave; possibly dyed with safflower (benibana); sewn with front and lining matched in size (tachikiri awase); silk, running "controlling" stitches along all edges; corners: silk-wrapped cotton and gold-leaf-over-lacquered-paper-strip wrapped cotton, knotted, replied fringe tassels.

Fukusa (Gift Cover), Mid–Meiji period (1868–1912), c. 1895

A work made of silk, 4:1 satin damask weave; tie-dyed, stenciled, and resist-dyed and painted with gold paint; embroidered with silk, gold- and silver-leaf-over-lacquered-paper-strip-wrapped-cotton and gold-leaf-over-lacquered-paper-strips in satin, cotton-padded satin, surface satin, and stem stitches; laidwork, couching and chinese knots; lined with silk, plain weave and silk, satin damask weave.
