Small Marble Head of a Female
Roman
Either very provincial Roman work or modern. Crudely carved female head with broad forehead, exaggerated cheek bones and flat chin. The lower lip projects and the open mouth is drilled. There is an assymetrical nose with right nostril larger than the left. The eyes are featureless, with oval raised areas under angular brows. Ears are featureless tabs projecting from hair locks swept back from cheeks. The hairdo rises symetrically from forehead, on either side of central part. The top and back of head are featureless.
