Reproduction of a Gold Mycenaean Bead

Reproduction of a Gold Mycenaean Bead

1850 - 1924; 1885 - 1939

Emile Gilliéron or son

Mycenaean

Worn reproduction of gold showing two dueling warriors in intaglio. Much of the detail has been lost on the reproduction but the two figures and either a single shield divided into two compartments or two shields are discernable. One warrior appears to be wearing a crested helmet. The other warrior seems to have the upper hand and drives his sword into to his opponent's throat. This detail is clearer on the original, which was found in Grave Circle A at Mycenae. It was possibly part of a necklace originally.

Electrotype of gold original; intaglio

Helladic period, Late
