Terracotta Lamp

Terracotta Lamp

From Rome, Broneer Type cannot be determined. Material: hard, porous, light-yellow clay, with gritty black impurities. No surface treatment. Complete except for tiny hole in right side, slightly encrusted. Crudely made oblong lamp with long nozzle containing tiny wick-hole and horizontal pierced handle. Flat, somewhat elliptical base, concave top with small, central filling-hole. Wick-hole apparently stopped up. Decoration--V-shaped groove, pointing towards nozzle, on top. No inscriptions or potter's stamps.
