Snow View from the Window

1886 - 1988

Kajiwara Hisako 梶原緋佐子

Japanese

A hanging scroll depicting a maiko (apprentice geisha) kneeling before a round window. The female figure is shown from the back in three quarter profile; she wears a black kimono with a plum blossom motif and a multi-colored obi with blossoming flowers and plovers. Beyond the window are glimpses of bamboo and red flowering bushes covered with snow.
