Sketches after Hokusai
Japanese
This modestly-sized ink drawing informally jumbles together several groups of figures and animals in the style of Katsushika Hokusai 葛飾北斎 (1760–1849). The drawings themselves seem likely to have been copied from illustrations in printed books, and then have been jumbled together on the same page in a manner reminiscent (though less organized) of the multiple sketches printed on a page in Hokusai’s famous “Manga” series.
