Painted plain weave cotton duck canvas fragment with knife cut edges. The fragment has a white ground layer, with a taped edge revealing a small area of unpainted canvas. A layer of red paint covers the white ground. The red paint layer has a dry brush edge, which reveals the underlying white layer and runs along the taped edge of the ground. The red paint is both matte and glossy. The white and red paint layers are applied diagonally with respect to the canvas weave.
