Painted canvas fragment

Partially painted plain weave cotton duck canvas fragment with knife cut edges and no visible ground layer. Areas of dark red paint are applied diagonally with respect to the canvas weave and dry brush edges show the raw canvas beneath. There are accretions adhered to the paint surface.
