Painted canvas fragment

Partially painted plain weave cotton duck canvas fragment with knife cut edges. Dark red paint, with matte and glossy areas and a dry brush edge, is applied diagonally with respect to the canvas weave. Various surface accretions are adhered to the glossy areas. The fragment has a turn edge with tide line stain running along the edge.
