Painted canvas fragment

Partially painted plain weave cotton duck canvas fragment with knife cut edges and no visible ground layer. Dark red paint, with matte and glossy areas, is applied diagonally with respect to the canvas weave. Fibers area adhered to glossy areas. Illegible inscriptions in transparent black ink or paint are applied over the paint layer.
