Painted plain weave cotton duck canvas fragment with knife cut edges and no visible ground layer. Dark red paint, with matte and glossy areas, has been brush applied directly to the raw canvas. Illegible inscriptions have been made in transparent black ink or paint. The fragment is cut diagonally with respect to the canvas weave.
