Painted canvas fragment

Partially painted plain weave cotton duck canvas fragment with no apparent ground layer and irregular knife cut edges. The fragment has a partial turn edge and tacking margin, with staple holes, oriented diagonally with respect to the canvas weave. An area of dark red paint with dry brush edge does not quite reach the turn edge.
