Folio from a manuscript of the Qur'an

Folio from a manuscript of the Qur'an

Arab

This is a folio detached from an `Abbasid-era Qur’an. It is written in Kufic script, with seven lines to the page, in dark brown ink on parchment. Vocalization marks are written in red and yellow. Verse stops are marked with gold dots or pendant-shaped marks in gold. The text consists of Sura 37:113-mid 115 (recto); and Sura 37: mid-115-118 (verso). The verso is the flesh side of the parchment. The verses concern Isaac; and Moses and Aaron who were given the book to guide their people.
