Rubbing from a Stone Carving of a Luo Ping (1733-1799) Painting of Monks Hanshan and Shide
Chinese
This rubbing derives from an engraved stele memorializing a famous painting of the monks Hanshan and Shide by the Qing painter Luo Ping (1733-1799). The original painting is now in the collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum, Kansas City, Missouri (William Rockhill Nelson Trust, 72–5). The stele, which remains at the Hanshan Temple in Suzhou, was carved by Tang Renzhai sometime between 1875 and 1908.
Rubbing mounted as a hanging scroll; ink on paper
