Brick Stamp of Q. Servilius Pudens

Brick Stamp of Q. Servilius Pudens

Roman

Partially preserved orbicular stamp, with Latin text IMP T ANTONINO [aug pi]O II COS / EX FIG Q SE[rv pu]D PER / ABA[sc]ANT ("In the second consulship of the emperor T. Antoninus Pius, from the brickyards of Q. Servilius Pudens, by Abascantus"). This brick stamp was produced by the foreman Abascantus, a slave or possibly an independent leaseholder on the brickyards of Q. Servilius Pudens, in the reign of Antoninus Pius. The brick may be dated, on the basis of the stamp which gives the consular date for the year, to 139 CE.
