Third son of John Henry Vivan MP for Swansea. First married 1867 to Lady Augusta Wyndham-Quin, daughter of the 3rd Earl of Dunraven (d. 1877). Second marriage to Lady Jane Dalyrmple (d. 1914) elder daughter of the 10th Earl of Stair. Educated at Eton, Mining Academy at Freiberg in Saxony, Trinity College, Cambridge. MP West Cornwell 1868-85.
