Cuff Band: Interlace
Byzantine
A cuff band from a tunic sleeve consisting of two parallel bands of indigo and buff interlace. The interlace design is created using the ‘flying shuttle’ technique of supplementary weft wrapping in a light thread on a tapestry woven ground. The interlace vine coils are punctuated by small crosses and rosettes. Geometric designs create borders on the bands. Dovetailing closes the slits at the ends of the bands.
