Head of Dionysus

Greek

Effeminate head, possibly of Dionysus. Voluminous curls piled high and framing the face with two bunches of grapes in either side. Long curl falls on either side of the neck. Broad nose, indicated eyelids and a sorrowful expression. Traces of gilding. Broken off at neck, chips missing from back of the head. Hard, brownish red clay with traces of mica and gold pigment.
