Wall painting fragment

Black, green, pink and red pigment on white-grey gypsum plaster. Green bands, outlined by straight and scalloped black lines, bordering a white band decorated with red squiggles. 1935.7.1 shares a decorative scheme with wall painting fragments 1940.97.57 and 1940.97.58. Samples of the pigments and plaster were taken and analyzed in the Straus Center in 2023. The results pointed to the following pigments/materials: for red: red ochre (hematite); for pink: gypsum and organic red (likely madder lake); and for white (gypsum). The plaster was identified as gypsum plaster.
