Brick Stamp of C. Calpetanus Hermes

Brick Stamp of C. Calpetanus Hermes

C. Calpetanus Hermes

Roman

Orbicular stamp. C. Calpetanus Hermes seems to be a freedman of C. Calpetanus Favor; he is named as a slave (Hermetis C. Calpetani Faoris or Favoris) in older brickstamps but here bears the name of a freedman. Another stamp (CIL XV, 1 318) shows that he was the officinator of the imperial Marcian clayfields (EX FIG MARCIANIS CAES N.) in 123 CE, the simpler form of which, the 'imperial clayfields' (EX FIG CAE N), is given here.
