Scaraboid Engraved Gem with Wreathed and Helmeted Head
Roman
Oval, scaraboid carnelian; pierced with modern gold swivel pendant.
This face depicts a head in profile to the right, possibly the goddess Minerva. She wears a crested helmet with a laurel wreath on its bowl. The beetle is simply rendered with a double line down the spine. The wings are incised.
