Stamped Amphora Handle
Roman
This stamp indicates the vessel was produced by two men with the initials C. L. M., and from other stamps it has been suggested that the full name is C. Licinius Magnus; what their relationship was cannot be known. Numerous examples of their stamps have been found at Hoyos de San Sebastian, on the right bank of the Guadalquivir between the Roman cities of Arva and Canana, in Baetica in southern Spain. This suggests that their estate was located in the vicinity of Hoyos de San Sebastian. An example of this stamp found in Monte Testaccio suggests, from its find-spot on the eastern side of the hill, that the stamp is to be dated before 160 CE.
