Fragment of an Amphora with graffito inscription

Fragment of an Amphora with graffito inscription

Roman

Potsherd of red clay, incised before firing and later covered with a yellowish gray slip. The wheel-marks inside show that this is from the bottom of the amphora, and that the inscription was upside down. Names incised on vessels before firing are infrequent, and seem to usually identify the potter.
