Everted moulded rim, body curves to splayed base. Curved spout with slight ornament. Scroll handle sockets-- lower one forms tip of wooden handle. Domed moulded cover with turned flame finial. Engraved with impaled arms of Chauncey and Stoddard in scroll and foliate cartouche. Made for the Reverend Charles Chauncey, grandson of the second president of Harvard and pastor of the First Congregational Church 1727-1787, married Mary Stoddard in 1765 (his third wife).Silver with dark wood handle. Hinged lid with finial at top. Foot and spout made separately from pot. Engraved crest on side with griffin above, lion, crosslet, three stars in shield.
