Maharaja and His Hunting Party Approach Blackbuck Deer

Maharaja and His Hunting Party Approach Blackbuck Deer

Attributed to The Kota Master

Indian

The drawing depicts three men confronting a group of blackbuck deer. Two carry bows and arrows, while the third balances a large vessel on his head while holding a vina, a type of stringed instrument. Musicians accompanied royal hunt parties to stalk deer as well as to lure them with melodies. In the top left corner, a mounted maharaja approaches with the rest of his hunting party.
