Maharao Ram Singh of Kota with His Consort in a Phaeton, Accompanied by Female Attendants on Foot

Indian

Maharao Ram Singh of Kota (r. 1696-1707) is accompanied by a female consort in a phaeton. In his left hand, Ram Singh holds a khanda, a type of sword distinct to India, over his left shoulder, and in his right, he holds reins. Both the Maharao and his consort bear green halos with yellow rays emanating from it. Near the front of the phaeton is a female attendant carrying a large black shield in one hand and a ceremonial mace in the other. In back of the phaeton are three female attendants, two carry fly whisks while the other carries a matchlock gun. Rajput Style, Kota School.
