Lady Reclining on Bench, Attended by Two Maidservants
Indian
At the center of the page is a large bed on which a young female figure, most likely of nobility, reclines. She lays on her stomach, with her feet resting on a large cushion. She props her right arm on another large cushion. Her right hand holds the back of her head as she turns to face a maidservant who pours a drink from a flask into a tiny cup. Crouching next to the bench, near the front is another maidservant. In front of her is a plus-sign-shape, which signifies a pachisi board, popularly known in the West as “parcheesi”. A candle smolders at the front of the bench. Rajput Style, Bundi School.
