Krishna and Radha Enthroned with Five Maidservants

Enthroned among lush, dense trees bearing fruits and flowers is Krishna, the eighth avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, and his consort, Radha. Both wear elaborately-decorated dress and jewelry. Both sit with their right legs bent. Krishna wears a long flower garland and an extravagant gold crown topped with a large ornament that resembles fanned out peacock feathers. His left arm is around Radha’s shoulder as he gazes at her. She looks downward, with her right hand holding the bottom edge of her headscarf while her left holds a blossom. Five maidservants flank their gold throne, three on the left and two on the right. The two maidservants closest to Krishna and Radha hold large fans.
