Virahotkanthita Nayika on a Terrace with a Pigeon
Indian
Standing barefoot on a white terrace is a Virahotkanthita Nayika, (“One Distressed by Separation”), a heroine that waits for her lover to return from a long journey. She wears a long dark orange dress, a long orange shawl that covers her head, armlets, bracelets, strands of pearls, earrings, head ornaments, and a nose ring. She gently arches her body as she looks behind her, with her right hand on her head while her left is extended and holds onto an end of her shawl. She gazes down at a large pigeon. In the background features two large flowering trees. Pahari Style, Kangra School.
