Nobleman Peering at Ladies Eating a Meal Through a Window (recto); Sketches of Elephant and Dog (verso)

Indian

The recto side of this folio features a group of women seated on the floor eating a meal. Female attendants stand behind the group and in the doorway. A nobleman watches the women from a window. His youthfulness is demonstrated by his lack of facial hair. The small deer depicted at the bottom left is most likely a separate sketch. Due to paper being an expensive commodity, artists often re-used paper for sketches and studies. The verso side of this folio features a drawing of a large elephant and a dog. Rajput Style, Kota School.
