Krishna and Radha by the Bank of a River

In this painting, Krishna, the eighth avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu who is worshipped as a deity in his own right, stands at the bank of the river on the left. He faces his consort, Radha, who kneels at the bank to gather water in a large vessel. On the left side of the image are Krishna’s fellow cow herders and their group of cows. On the right are women descending stairs leading to the river and carrying water jugs on their heads. In the distance is the town. Pahari Style, Kangra School.
