Carpet, Main carpet, unusually small

Central Asian

Unusually small Tekke main carpet. Unlike other Tekke rugs, designed for the floor. Referred to in older literature as "Bokhara," or "Princess Bokhara." Warp: 2 S plied Z spun, hard, tightly spun undyed white wool; one level. Weft: 1 ply Z spun; usually 2 yarns per shoot. Pile: 2 S plied Z spun. Pile colors: dark red, light red, dark blue, blue-green, white and probably undyed brown, and yellow. Knots: asymmetical, open to the right, and pulled strongly right. Knots per vertical decimeter: 50. Knots per horizontal decimeter: 46. Both selvedges: 1 bundle of 4 warps wrapped in indigo blue wool. Both ends: stripped, but with pile alems still extant.
