1963–65
Jasper Johns (American, born 1930) poetry by Frank O'Hara (American, 1926-1966) printed by Zigmunds Priede and Ben Berns (American, born The Netherlands, 1936) published by Universal Limited Art Editions (American, founded 1955)
United States
In 1963, Johns began a series of prints that featured his own body parts as their principal imagery. As with Pinion, the artist spent more time than usual completing these prints. This print closely echoes a 1962 drawing, Study for Skin I. Prophetically, Johns included a poem by Frank O’Hara, who would die in 1966.
