Bronze Smoke

1978

Helen Frankenthaler (American, 1928-2011) printed by Thomas Cox (American) and Bill Goldston (American, born 1943) published by Universal Limited Art Editions (American, founded 1955)

United States

Bronze Smoke, along with Altitudes and Door, were the last prints Frankenthaler created at U.L.A.E. until she returned briefly in 2006. Together, these three prints show the artist’s growing fascination with colored paper, both as a ground for the overall composition but also as a border for the image, a fascination that would continue for the remainder of her career.
