Tetradrachm (Coin) Depicting the Goddess Artemis Tauropolis

158-149 BCE

Greek

Macedonia

The front of this coin depicts the goddess Artemis Tauropolis facing right. She wears a distinctive headpiece called a stephane, with her hair rolled in triple knot with loose locks down her neck; behind her shoulder is a bow and quiver.

On the back a vertical club is flanked by an as yet untranslated inscription and encircled by a border of oak leaves.
