Bartolomeo Biscaino Italian, before 1629-1657
Italy
This tender scene depicts the Holy Family resting, while an angel picks fruit from a tree for the Virgin. The elegance of the twisting, attenuated figures reflects the influence of Biscaino's teacher, Valerio Gastello, but it also recalls the Mannerist etching style of Parmigianino.
