Panel (Dress or Furnishing Fabric)

Poiret participated in the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. His “pavilion” consisted of three barges moored on the river Seine. One, called Orgues (Organs), was the site for presenting his latest couturier collection. The backdrop consisted of painted scenes of Paris life by his old friend Raoul Dufy. The second, called Delices (Delights), was a luxury restaurant. The third, Amours (Loves), showcased Poiret’s interior design work, as produced by the Atelier Martine. The drawing room of Amours featured a heady mix of rich colors and audacious floral patterns, including curtains made from the fabric shown here.
