Marsh and Screen of Trees

n.d.

Charles François Daubigny French, 1817-1878

France

This drawing probably depicts a landscape in Longpré-les-Corps-Saints, in the Somme region in the north of France. In a letter of 1871, Daubigny wrote that his visit to Longpré had produced a "treasure chest of paintings with ponds." One of these paintings, The Marsh (1871), is in the collection of The Art Institute of Chicago (1894.1044).
