A work made of metalcut from two plates in black, with hand-coloring, on ivory laid paper.

The Crucifixion

c. 1475

Unknown Artist German, 15th century

Germany

This imposing handcolored metalcut print was produced from two plates, including a similar but not identical outer border plate of visionary clouds and stars as The Man of Sorrows with Four Angels. It is therefore not the Crucifixion found bound into the same missal, but bears many similarities to it.
