A work made of etching with plate tone on ivory japanese paper.

Bal Bullier, Paris

1906

John Marin American, 1870-1953

United States

Here Marin juxtaposed a carefully described street scene with a sky dramatized by a free array of slashes, scratches, and hatching. This etching corresponds to his watercolors of the time, in which the sky reveals the greatest freedom in his handling of the brush.
