Handkerchiefs of the early 19th century commonly depict events or individuals, but this example illustrates symbols associated with Freemasonry and the words to the Masonic song “Attic Fire.” Rather than functioning as a commemorative object, this handkerchief reflects an expression of shared beliefs associated with membership in a group.
