José Clemente Orozco Mexican, 1883-1949

Mexico

José Clemente Orozco was a Mexican social realist painter and satirical illustrator who, with Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros, founded the Mexican mural movement. He lived in the United States from 1927 to 1934, completing influential murals in California, New York, and New Hampshire (at Dartmouth College). Throughout his career, he explored the theme of human suffering and promoted the political causes of oppressed peasants and workers.
