Portrait of the Brothers Konrad and Franz Eberhard

c. 1822

Johann Anton Alban Ramboux German, 1790-1866

Germany

This print depicts a closely cropped portrait of twin brothers; one stares at the viewer while the other gazes off to the side. This compositional type, popular during the Romantic era in Germany (around 1790–1830), was known as a Freundschaftsbild or “friendship picture” because it focuses on the connections and expressions shared between two individuals.
