Wish # 1

1974

Pat Steir American, born 1938

United States

Printmaking helped Steir clarify her "thinking about art both philosophically and in terms of process." In the three Wish lithographs, she uses the idea of transformation from state to state and in the technical act of overprinting—both unique to graphic media—to illustrate the ways in which images or "illusions" become associated with myth, memory, and history.
