Side Chair

In 1924 the London-based perfume and soap purveyor Yardley & Co. established its first Paris showroom and engaged Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, the leading interior designer in the city, to design furniture, lighting fixtures, display cabinets, and even wrought-iron door frames for the store. The furniture, including this side chair, was probably completed just after Ruhlmann’s celebrated display at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts (Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes) in Paris in 1925. This chair remained in the Yardley showroom until it closed in the late 1960s.
