Jean I de Gourmont made woodcuts in his family's print shop from 1508 until 1520. From 1522 until 1526, he produced engravings in Lyon. During the Renaissance, Lyon was a major center for publishing in Europe. While there, Gourmont made prints with religious and secular themes.
