Madagascar

Madagascar

The Malagasy language text printed on this kanga underscores an emblematic Madagascar value of unity in diversity. It reflects the wide range of societies that have played a part in the formation of the island’s histories, including African, Arab, British, Chinese, French, and Indian people as well as others from Southeast Asia, East Africa, and Oceania. The design elements include iconic images drawn from the island’s traditional art forms, cultural practices, and natural environment: baobob trees, lemurs, comet moths, djembe drums, and the sculptural commemorative grave markers known as aloalo.
