A work made of indigo discharge block printed cotton.

Wey

Design c. 1883, made 1883–1917

Designed by William Morris (English, 1834–1896) Produced by Morris & Co., London (English, 1875–1940) Merton Abbey, London (English, 1881–1940)

This example of We may not have been finished, as the other printed cotton versions have yellow and pinkish-red colors that were applied over the initial treatment of indigo discharge printing, which is seen
here. The discharge technique employs a bleaching agent to selectively remove color from a fabric that has been dyed solid blue. This design was also made as a printed velveteen.
