Twill Weave Daybed

2016

Jonathan Olivares (American, born 1981) Manufactured by Kvadrat, Denmark and Hall Composites, USA

As a writer and designer, Jonathan Olivares engages the overlapping histories of form and technology. Twill Weave Daybed consists almost entirely of woven materials developed in collaboration with Danish textile manufacturer Kvadrat and a New England manufacturer of sailing masts. This includes the bed’s carbon-fiber frame, made with a composite of woven carbon fiber and epoxy resin. The accompanying cushion is also woven, from wool.
Together they emphasize the tactile experience of woven textiles and highlight the promising possibilities of carbon-fiber engineering.
