Ali Tayar Turkish, 1959–2016
Ali Tayar created the Icon workstation and shelving system for his studio in New York. The modular components allow each powder-coated, bent-metal unit to be installed in numerous configurations of different heights and widths, including shelving, room dividers, or a desk. Tayar thought of his furniture as minibuildings, with the same structural logic and articulation of materials as any inhabited structure. This design also reflects Tayar’s career-long devotion to a flexible, kit-of-parts approach to product and interior design.
